The Challenge

Shaheen Group of Institutions deployed approximately 8,000 Lenovo M10 tablets for student learning but lacked sufficient control over device usage. Students were able to freely browse non-educational websites and install unauthorized applications, leading to security risks, distractions, and administrative overhead. Existing MDM controls were not enough to enforce strict usage policies across such a large number of devices.

Our Solution

We designed and implemented a custom MDM-based ecosystem layered on top of Headwind MDM with additional controls:

  • Enabled Kiosk Mode to lock devices into an education-only environment
  • Built a custom access app to control browsing and application usage
  • Implemented website whitelisting & blacklisting
  • Enforced policy-based app access for students
  • Added remote monitoring, network control, and audit logs for administrators

The Impact

Quantifiable Results

~70% reduction in device misuse (High → Very Low)

Unauthorized app installs: frequent (10+ per device) → 3 or fewer

Admin effort reduced: manual checks 3 hrs/day → ~20 mins/day using centralized controls

Pilot rollout success: 80–150 devices tested before scaling to 8,000 tablets
